21st Century Love

I want to lick your teeth in the morning.
Even though I have bad breathe.
And interrupt your shower to take a piss.
And listen to me trying to sing.
Burn my balls as I get into the bath.
Take a romantic soak with bubbles.
Share my last cigarette with you,
even though you don’t smoke.
Rip your boxers off with my teeth.
And plan our honeymoon.
Argue about the destination.
Agree on a place to keep the peace.
Tell you, you look awful when you actually do.
Telling you, you look handsome first thing I’m the morning, cause I prefer it.
Rubbing your back while your vomiting.
Asking for a kiss after I’ve been sick, giving me one because you love me.
Telling you to fuck off cause I need some space.
Calling you to tell you I miss you.
Holding my hand and never letting go.
Touching my bum, to make everyone aware I’m yours.
Leaving millions of kisses after texts
Writing a status about how much you piss me off.
Buying me chocolate when you know I’m on a diet.
Pouring champagne into my belly button, and licking it out after!
Thinking all sorts when you don’t reply!
Realising that I wouldn’t be complete without you, yet still feeling empty and lonely within this world.

Homosexuality within Disney!

The new film: “Frozen” was released in the autumn of 2013 and saw the likes of Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell and Jonathan Groff taking on the animated voices of the characters. If you haven’t seen the film I will not spoil it for you, but you must go and see it. The music; the story; the characters can only be described as epic. It has been described as the best animated Disney film they have done since The Lion King, it is definitely worth a watch.

However I’m not writing a review about the movie, I wanted to discuss what I think the hidden connotations are within the film; and how I think its Disney’s way of giving LGBT the thumbs up to equality.

It’s the first time in Disney history that the princess/queen does not have a love interest – she stands alone. We all know that love is supposed to conquer all in Disney; however who says it has to be non-platonic or even heterosexual.

In most Disney Films the way to break a spell is true loves kiss; this is not the case in Frozen. It’s actually the love of family that breaks the spell; Elsa breaks the spell by showing emotion towards her sister with a warm embrace.

It takes a while for Disney to break the conventional; for instance having the first Black princess was a huge deal for Disney; most think it took too long for the uptake however they broke the “white princess” stereotype with Tiana. Even though there have been talks of making a homosexual Disney film I definitely think Disney again will be slow on making this happen; Is the world ready for a prince and prince or a princess and princess; only time will tell.

Choosing Idina Menzel to voice the main character Elsa was pure genius, having huge success in musicals such as Wicked, The Wild Party and of course Rent: Menzel is very well known for her distinctive voice. Playing misfit characters is something that Menzel plays well for instance, Elphaba in Wicked, the green witch who was an outcast for doing something good. Maureen in rent; a bisexual activist who wanted to change people’s way of thinking. I think casting Menzel as Elsa was definitely not coincidental given her past independent female roles.

“Let it go” – Elsa’s solo song is a very empowering, I’ve had it on repeat since I first watched the movie. I just wanted to pick out some of the lyrics within the song as I personally feel if you look beyond the Disney melody you will find some truth within there.

“Don’t let them in, don’t let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know
Well now they know”

I think the bridge section talks about keeping a secret concealed. In the movie it’s about Elsa’s powers however I personally think it’s a hidden message talking about sexuality.

“Let it go, let it go
Can’t hold it back any more
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door
I don’t care what they’re going to say
Let the storm rage on
the cold never bothered me anyway”

The chorus then leads to talks about letting everything go, letting go of the secret as such; making reference to outsiders saying she doesn’t care for them anyway.

I think given Disney’s reputation of subliminal messages within their films sexuality and homosexuality is given in between the lines in Frozen. Additionally its Disney’s way of making progress to making a homosexual movie and giving their thumbs up to equality; because let’s be honest what gay doesn’t love a fairy-tale?
